Death a part of life at Rio Grande Zoo

This video is a little unusual as it is actually making mention of the fact that animals die in zoos. Usually zoos will not make mention unless it is the oldest, or especially rare or perhaps a favourite with visitors.

I can fully understand why too because certain anti-zoo groups in tandem with the more evil elements of the press use it to suggest something is very wrong. It isn't though. Death IS part of life at the Rio Grande Zoo and every zoo for that matter. If something lives it will ultimately die and, within zoos the loss is mourned because ZooKeepers care!
Valerie Chavez (senior zookeeper of mammals) says something I have repeated many a time 'if a death does not hurt anymore it is time to look for another job'.
