Is City zoo a curse for cubs?

Is City zoo a curse for cubs?

This story in the press today got my back up. I thought it needed to be examined in more detail. I have posted the full story further down the page. Why does it bother me so much? Because I see countless similar stories (Sadly a lot from Indian zoos). It is going to continue until someone in authority pulls their finger out and teaches people what big cats need, It isn't the cats to blame...it is the staff.

He said that both the cubs were suffering from lung infection and respiratory problems since their birth.

Just how do they know that? Nobody should know it. It points to human interference right at the very start. Big cats need somewhere quiet, secluded and secure to cub. That is obviously not the case here. This is the root cause of their problems.

On Wednesday night, a guard noticed the 20-day-old cub of Diya lying unconscious. He informed zoo authorities about it

What is any 'guard' doing checking on 20 day old cubs at night. Again disturbing a mother with her cubs.

They rushed to the tigress enclosure, but its mother did not allow them to examine it. Later, somehow the zoo staff managed to lock Diya in another shelter and took the cub for examine.

More pointless stressful disturbance. Suggests a significant time of trying to split the mother off. She obviously didn't want to leave the cub. Just what did they do to get her away?

They, however, had died due to mishandling by their respective mothers. Megha and Diya had picked their cubs up by the flesh rather than the skin around their necks.

This sort of injury is caused by stressed mothers. It isn't mishandling....it is stress caused by interfering staff.

This is a proper cubbing den in ZSL

Is City zoo a curse for cubs?
Indore : The city zoo is proving a curse to newborn cubs of big cats as they continue to die for one or other reasons. A pall of gloom descended on the city zoo on Thursday as the last surviving cub of white tigress Diya died nearly 20 days after he was born.
Diya had given birth to two cubs on May 28. One of them had died of lung infection about 10 days back. “The second also passed away due to lung infection,” zoo in-charge Dr Uttam Yadav said. He said that both the cubs were suffering from lung infection and respiratory problems since their birth.
According to zoo officials, the deceased cub was declared dead only after post mortem which was done early morning on Thursday. On Wednesday night, a guard noticed the 20-day-old cub of Diya lying unconscious. He informed zoo authorities about it. They rushed to the tigress enclosure, but its mother did not allow them to examine it. Later, somehow the zoo staff managed to lock Diya in another shelter and took the cub for examine.
Yadav said that the cub was not breathing. “He had died in the enclosure,” he said adding that the post-mortem found that the cub was suffering from the lung infection just like the first one.
Three cubs die in last 35 days
In past 35 days, three newborn cubs had died at city zoo. Earlier, one of the five newborn cubs of lioness Megha had also died in the first week of May due to respiratory problems.
Last year also, six cubs, three each of Diya and Megha had died at the zoo. They, however, had died due to mishandling by their respective mothers. Megha and Diya had picked their cubs up by the flesh rather than the skin around their necks. The move proved fatal for the cubs. The number of big cats in the city zoo has reduced to 30 from 33.

China Admits to Tiger Skin Trade but not to Bones

China Admits to Tiger Skin Trade but not to Bones

So China has come out and admitted that :

'we don't ban trade in tiger skins but we do ban trade in tiger bones,'

So does this make it any less bad? Most definitely not. The bones remain in the 'zoo' in which the tiger has been skinned. These will have been put into vats of rice wine and steeped for a few months to produce Tiger Bone Wine........

.......which, as far as I am aware there is no ban on trade. I daresay that the bones are rendered down afterwards to produce Tiger Bone Glue and other pseudo Medicinal Ointments.

So what has changed? Nothing! Again I am assuming that is still against the law in China to kill these tigers for the trade and so they are starved to death to keep this horrific trade going.

China 'admits' trading in tiger skins

The Esso Tiger Saved from Death

The Esso Tiger Saved from Death

The story below got me thinking. Rather like the number of Lions which played 'Elsa' in the movie 'Born Free' there must have been many Esso Tigers. I recollect being involved in the promotion in the early 70's.
Then there is the word "rescued" being used in this article....I have a problem with that. If the sum of £250,000 ($414,450.00has been mentioned then money must have changed hands somewhere down the line and so, in effect, it is not a 'rescue' but a 'purchase'. I'm not knocking it though....it is a noble gesture (as were the Lions from Romania and Anne The Elephant).
My last thought was....are these tigers in an official studbook anywhere or are they just generic tigers and so of little value for anything other than exhibition? And honestly now....just how much is a generic tiger worth?

'Esso tiger' saved from death by wildlife park

Eighteen-year-old Tango had been earmarked for destruction in Belgium along with his partner Julia after the two tigers were seized from a German circus last year where they were mistreated.

A world-famous tiger who featured in the Esso TV advert has been saved from death by a British wildlife park after being mistreated by a circus.
Eighteen-year-old Tango had been earmarked for destruction in Belgium along with his partner Julia after the two tigers were seized from a German circus last year.
The pair were rescued following a campaign by Neil Mumby and his team of keepers at Woodside Wildlife and Falconry Park in Lincolnshire to save them.
Tango starred in TV adverts for Esso - whose slogan was 'Put a tiger in your tank' - before going to the circus in Germany, where he and Julia were mistreated.

Forget About Dogs Dressed as Lions - Consider Extreme Tiger Abuse

Forget About Dogs Dressed as Lions - Consider Extreme Tiger Abuse

The Luohe Zoo in Henan Province in China has really tickled the fancy of the worlds newspapers. They are competing with each other to come up with the most novel header.

"Mane event: China zoo's 'lion' was living a lie as dog in disguise"

"Lying about its lion, Chinese zoo closed for going to the dogs"

"A zoo lion has devastated Chinese spectators!"

"Chinese zoo shut for going to the dogs"

and endless tales on "Lying about their Lion"

I have read the reports from about two dozen newspapers (there are hundreds more) and none of them are saying much different to this.

Tibetan mastiff passed off as lion!
A zoo in central China has been closed after visitors were outraged to discover its lion was really a bushy and barking Tibetan mastiff.

The dog was not the only fake at People’s Park Zoo in the city of Luohe, which tried to pass off other common mammals and rodents as a leopard and snakes, Chinese media reported.

Photographs showed the mastiff with its muzzle poking through the bars of its dingy enclosure. A grimy sign on the cage read “African Lion” in Chinese characters.

The zoo apologised for the exhibits and was closed down for “rectification”, the Beijing News said, citing local officials. Animal rights activists have criticised Chinese zoos for their record of poor conditions and other abuses.

What all these newspapers seem to be missing is that there is a YouTube video of this story. I urge you to watch it because this is where the real story is. It is only a couple of minutes long but shows some of the worst Tiger Abuse I have ever seen. Why have the papers not taken up on this? Too distasteful?:

The Tiger in Surabaya Zoo

The Tiger in Surabaya Zoo

Surabaya Zoo is in the news again. In fact it is rarely out of the news lately. This is compounded by the over abundance of pages dedicated to collecting signatures to close the zoo or rectify a perceived somewhat disturbing situation. Though these signature pages are well meaning they play upon the hearts and minds of the ignorant. The phrases they use such as 'Deliberate Cruelty' are not so different to the newspapers who like to use 'Zoo of Death' or its ilk. Surabaya is neither of these.

It is not perfect but then few zoos are.

There really is nothing new to report. The same faults and unsubstantiated facts are repeatedly dredged up. This is all part of the master plan by corrupt officials to close the zoo and take the vacated prime real estate for building and to direct the numerous zoo visitors towards its commercial competitor.

The most recent ammunition to the armoury of those wishing to close the zoo was Melani the Tiger. Lots of photographs and video appeared. This came from or by permission of those 'running' the zoo. Why on earth would these people show pictures of a starved and obviously very ill tiger. It is almost as if they were demonstrating 'look how clever we are not'. This tiger should not have been on show. In fact if there was any humanity at all she should have been kindly euthanased. But no, it's almost as if it was being deliberately kept in its poor state because it promoted their cause.

There is no question about it but the photograph you see of the tiger above is terrible. What zoo and why would let an animal get into such a state? More to the point what zoo would allow photographs to be taken of an animal in such condition? Unless it helped an agenda of course. In more recent photos her condition is so much better.

The suggestion was that it was the old staff who were to blame for the condition of Melani. Why not the new? They have been running the place for years now.

Nowhere have I seen it mentioned that actually Melani actually arrived at the zoo in a very similar state that you see her in today. So I telling you....Melani was previously the pet of Rudy Hartono, son of retired General R. Hartono. The unfortunate Melani had been fed on a totally inadequate diet of Soto and Rawon (effectively beef stew) and donated to Surabaya as an adult. She was damaged when she arrived.

The recent public outcry has been sufficient to see her moved from Surabaya to Taman Safari. Taman Safari is the nearest competitor to Surabaya. It is a representative of Taman Safari who has been running Surabaya these past few years....does this not strike you as being a little bit odd?

Taman Safari are not without their good points but then so does Surabaya. Taman Safari have their bad points too as does Surabaya. Taman Safari though sticks in my mind as somewhere that chains up tigers, does nasty little shows with baby orangutans and donates animals to Banjarnegara zoo
If people think that Surabaya is bad then they should visit Banjarnegara because in terms of bad zoos this is one of the very worst.

Recent Posting on the WAZA website:
Emergency situation in Surabaya Zoo
WAZA was informed about the recent situation in Surabaya zoo, Indonesia. The story was published in The Sydney Morning Herald : Zoos takes terrible toll on amimals . Although there were some improvements made in this zoo in recent years, the animal welfare situation is in urgent need of change. Even if this zoo is not a member of our organisation, WAZA has contacted the Indonesian Zoological Parks Association as well as the South East Asian Zoological Association and the responsible person in the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia in order to take immediate action and stop the cruelty. WAZA has received an extensive letter of explanation from the Indonesian Zoological Parks Association and been informed that “Melani” the tiger has now been moved to Taman Safari in order to get proper treatment. However, Melani being an old tiger is still in bad shape and is in need of special veterinary care. The Association is acting as the temporary management team of the zoo in order to improve the diet, especially for carnivores and is also working on improvements of exhibits.

N.B. Why am I writing about this? Why should I care? Quite simply because I hate corruption and this is exactly what is happening. Corruption is trying to kill Surabaya and no-one else dares to say anything or appears to gives a damn.

Tiger Killed and Butchered in Itanagar Zoo in India

Tiger Killed and Butchered in Itanagar Zoo in India

So yet again we have a Tiger slaughtered within a zoo. The last one, to my recollection was in Taman Rimba Zoo in Indonesia back in August 2009. The only surprise to me is that it is not happening more frequently. I have called upon zoos on several occasions to beef up their security systems....it is not just tigers which need watching but the Rhinos too. Don't let it happen! Dummy cameras are not the answer. Night Keepers, constant supervision, alarms and training are.

This latest tiger was killed and butchered whilst the three guards were away for their evening meal. There is an obvious flaw in the system there....all three guards should not have been away at the same time....no doubt changes will be made. The guards returned before the pieces of the unfortunate beast could be removed.

Reports on the incident differ in detail. The animal was apparently shot (did no one hear the gunfire?) and sliced up.....whatever the truth of the matter....it was killed in a zoo.

Please be aware that the prices for various animal body parts are now above Gold and Cocaine. Don't let your charges be the next victims.

Siberian Tiger Escapes at Knuthenborg Safari Park

Siberian Tiger Escapes at Knuthenborg Safari Park

On Wednesday morning a Siberian Tiger escaped at Knuthenborg Safari Park in Denmark. The tiger, was a recent arrival from Aalborg zoo.
The animal somehow forced and scaled a fence and climbed into an enclosure. No visitors were in danger at any time and the escape drill was quickly activated. The tiger was shot dead. The situation is being assessed. There have been no similar incidents in 40 years and steps are being taken to prevent a similar incident occurring.

The Lie Of The Tiger

The lie of the Tiger? Would you believe it? Would I believe it? Yes I would actually. When I started in zoos back in the late 1960's I was a cat keeper. There were several zoos within the commercial company I was working for and animals were always being moved about. One of the things I did at the time was to make drawings of the spot and stripe patterns on the foreheads of Leopards and Tigers. These were the 'fingerprints' through which I could identify. So yes, I believe Mr Dmitry Molodtsov. And especially because in recent years I have become more aware of the corruption of conservation. Too many blind eyes and deaf ears out there. Money is the corrupter. There are a lot of organisations out there who should know better but really don't give a damn. Was it tigers I was talking about? Yes...but a certain baby Orangutan and Silvery Gibbon were not too far from my thoughts.

Now Read On:

Lie of the tiger – ‘wild’ animal shot by Putin was actually from a zoo
A TIGER can’t change its stripes – which is leading Russians to wonder if Vladimir Putin needs to change his story about which one he shot.
In one of the macho photo moments the Russian leader often indulges in, he was shown on an expedition with preservationists in the Far East in 2008 tracking wild Amur tigers.
According to video footage, Mr Putin shot one of the rare beasts with a tranquilliser gun so Russian scientists could put a GPS collar on it.
Mr Putin’s website later showed photos of what it claimed to be the same tiger, back in the wild.
But environmentalist Dmitry Molodtsov, who runs a website about the big cats, has come to the conclusion that the tiger shot by Putin isn’t the same one shown later in his video – and that the animal tranquillised by the Russian leader wasn’t a wild specimen at all but a comparatively docile animal from a zoo.
Mr Molodtsov insisted the tigress Mr Putin shot had been taken from a zoo and had never lived in the wild. He said photographs of a tiger named Serga at a zoo in the in the eastern city of Khabarovsk made him “99 per cent certain it was the tiger pictured with Putin”.
He said Serga was then taken on the long drive back to the Khabarovsk zoo. In the days that followed, the rare tiger died, unable to recover from the three tranquillisers used by scientists during the PR stunt.
Mr Molodtsov said he felt obligated to publish his investigation. “I thought this to be my civil duty to report this,” he said. “I want to live in a country where a politician will know that he can improve his declining ratings only with real deeds.”
Vladimir Krever, from the Russian branch of the World Wildlife Fund, agreed. “What I have seen online are two different animals,” he said.
But Natalya Remennikova, project co-ordinator at the government-funded Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution in Moscow, which is in charge of the Amur tiger preservation programme, said Mr Molodtsov’s claim was untrue.
“Somebody made it up or they thought they saw something suspicious,” she said, adding that the report could be aimed to smear Mr Putin, the current prime minister and president-elect.
The Russian leader is known for his stage-managed media appearances in an array of manly pursuits – stroking a polar bear, riding a horse bare-chested and hanging out with leather-clad bikers.
The images have endeared him to many Russians but provoked scorn among others. Last year, video footage showed him scuba diving and finding ancient Greek artefacts, which his spokesman later admitted had been planted on the sea bed.
Mr Putin served as president from 2000 to 2008 before shifting into the prime minister’s seat because of term limits. He won a third term in the 4 March election with

Always An Accident Waiting To Happen

It is quite simple really. Posing with, playing with and entering enclosures with big cats is always an accident waiting to happen. As none of these activities is necessary then the solution is quite simple too. - Peter

Owner of small Iowa zoo hospitalized with injuries to head, torso from tiger attack

The owner of a small Iowa zoo has been hospitalized with injuries from a tiger attack.

The Delaware County sheriff’s office says 52-year-old Tom Sellner suffered lacerations to his head and torso in the Sunday morning attack at Cricket Hollow Zoo in Manchester. He was flown to an Iowa City hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately available.

Dreamworld Tiger Bites Handler

One of the 'Handlers' at Dreamworld has been bitten by one of the Tigers (Kato) and received five deep puncture wounds to upper calf and thigh.

The bite has been described as just a 'nip' and the 'handler' is expected to be back to work in just a few days.

The amusement park will be conducting an internal investigation into the incident.

All 'handling' of big cats be they Tigers, Lions or whatever is totally unnecessary and is always an accident waiting to happen. Though this incident was not especially severe it could so easily have been.

Handling and posing sessions with big cats should be stopped.

Tigers rescued from house fire

Firefighters responding to a house fire at 02.51 on Monday morning in Quezon City, Manila were stunned to find a number of exotic animals being held there.

These included five tigers, two Burmese Pythons, three Indian Starred Tortoises, several fighting cocks, four dogs and a number of cats. Only the fighting cocks were killed in the fire. The fire was quickly put out due to the rapid response by the firefighting team.

All of the animals were said to be in good condition and the tigers were securely held in a 50 by 15 feet enclosure. Although the animals were legally held under Philippine legislation they were not meant to be accommodated within the city and had been transported there illegally.

The animals were owned by Robert Co who was not at home when the fire occurred. He now faces investigation for contravening the Wildlife Act and to see what other laws may have been broken.

Happy New Year from Zoo News Digest

The 3rd February 2011 ushers in the first day of the Chinese New Year. It is the year of the Rabbit (unless you are in Vietnam where it is the year of the Cat). Out goes the Year of the Tiger.

I am posting this out on the 2nd of February just in case you are a purist and believe that the new day starts at 11 pm tonight.

And sadly, out goes the year of the Tiger.

I wonder though did we actually get anywhere with Tigers? There were endless meetings, lots of talk, reams of documents, lots of promised commitment, there were pats on the back and awards given out.

What though was actually done?

We have another chance to get things right. The Tiger is a Cat after all. Let us ignore the Chinese horoscope this year and stick with the Vietnamese one. Let us actually do something for the Tigers. Action. Protect the forests and all within will be protected. Forget about doubling numbers...simply protect the forests.

We have all been moaning on about Indonesia and their destruction of the forests. No Tigers there I will grant you but there is in Malaysia. Today we learn that:

"New satellite imagery showed Malaysia was destroying forests more than three times faster than all of Asia combined, and its carbon-rich peat soils of the Sarawak coast were being stripped even faster, according to a study released Tuesday"

This is Horrific!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a good start to my year.

If The Law Is Wrong Then It Is Time To Change It

In one way it seems strange to be using the phrase "The Law Is An Ass" twice in one week but then it so often is.

Very sadly, and wrongly in my eyes the German courts has just turned down the appeal and have upheld the earlier courts decision on the conviction of Magdeburg Zoo Director Kai Perret and two senior staff for the euthanasia of two hybrid tiger cubs.

These cubs were found to be subspecific hybrids and so were of no use whatsoever to any properly managed breeding programme. The sensible and right decision was to euthanize them. A less responsible collection may have tried to sell or, heaven forbid 'donate' them to some second rate zoo which was more concerned with commercial exploitation of animals.

Euthanasia is NOT cruel or unkind. It is a proper and real conservation management decision and one upheld by and believed by GOOD zoos.

I can fully appreciate that in the case of the tiger cubs that the law may have been broken but as the action taken by the staff of the Magdeburg Zoo was the correct one then the law is wrong and should and must be changed. Cats and dogs are euthanized daily. Sheep, Pigs, Cattle and Chickens are slaughtered in their thousands and scarcely anyone bats an eye.

Here two tiger cubs are caringly and kindly put to sleep.

German animal rights activist Petr Neuman stated "Germany should do much more to protect its animals in captivity.” Well that is exactly what was being done here. Protecting a species for the future and not just for Germany but for the world.

The law is an ass.

Sumatran Tigers May Be More Common Than Believed

Panthera tigris sumatrae - Hermival les Vaux, France

It is quite some time since we had any good news for Tigers but a recently released report has indicated that the Sumatran Tiger may be a lot more common than believed. In fact they may be the second largest wild tiger population.

Tiger Paste For Sale

Panthera tigris - Laos Zoo

It is scarcely credible that just days after the World Tiger Summit that Vietnam is allowing the auction of Tiger Paste. Tiger Paste? You have probably never heard of it and you really don't want an explanation as to how it is manufactured.

Regardless, 'Tiger Paste' is a popular product in some quarters and is sold for as much as $10,000 for a kilogram. The Vietnamese paste was that which had quite rightly been confiscated from dealers in animal products. It should then have been destroyed and not destined for auction on the open market.

Very stupidly Thanh Hoa Province People's Committee permitted agencies to auction 2.8 Kilograms of Tiger Paste at the starting price of $2,500 per Kilo.

Sadly this auction is not illegal. Though the sale of tiger parts is illegal in Vietnam the law does allow dealing for health purposes (similar to Tiger Bone Wine in China). This loophole in the law needs to be stitched tightly closed and quickly. It would not take much thought from an evil genius to take full advantage of this idiocy and have a ready market.

Tiger Temple Update - November 2010 - Important

Tiger Temple Update - November 2010

(The post below has been taken directly from Sybelle Foxcroft's post in Notes on cee4life you can read the full post on the Facebook page.)

Hi All

Firstly, I'd just like to thank CNN for the exposure of the Tiger Temple to the US and any one else around the world who was watching. Brilliant, and I thank this huge network for having the guts to bring this to a wide public audience.

At the same time that the CNN broadcast of the Tiger Temple abuse and Tony the Truckstop tiger went to air, something very disturbing unfolded inside the tiger temple.

To bring you up to date, the Tiger Temple is removing all foreign staff from hands on contact with the tigers. That means the care and handling of these tigers has taken a massive step backwards.

Although, when the foreign volunteers were hands on with the tigers, they were still only able to stop some of the abuses, particularly the physical abuse. Now there is no one to stop it. The Temple just employed another 5 thai staff workers to work directly with the tigers. These Thai workers are off the street and have had no animal experience in their lives, much like all of the staff.

So when they are employed in the temple, they are trained by 2 very nasty pieces of men who's only method of controlling a tiger is via a smash in the head, karate punches, kidney kicking, and other vicious actions. These have all been caught on film, and are up on YouTube along with other abuses, for your viewing pleasure........ :(

So the information for the world is up on the internet, its still just a matter of getting this out to the public.

But on the very night that the CNN exposure aired, in Thailand at the Tiger Temple, a Hollywood film crew entered the Tiger Temple. The long suffering Hernfa (tiger with his head yanked up and down all day everyday for tourist photos) Saifa (one of the last, ailing and in desperate need of veterinary aid, remaining original tigers) the young adults Mek & Payak (my Harnfa's sons) and the younger Sangton (female), were all hauled out of their cages to participate in the filming of the Scorpian King 3.......

I am in absolute shock that Hollywood used the Tiger Temple tigers... this is an absolute disaster. Hollywood would have paid the Temple quite a bit of money for this. Unbelievable....

Now if 1 Hollywood production company chose to use these horribly abused tigers, then there could be 2, then 3 etc etc....

The trucks drove in and set up massive flood lights and the tigers were pushed and prodded to 'act'. The problem is that they were not acting, the sight of the thick sticks that they are beaten with ensured that they would not misbehave too much. However, Hernfa (who is becoming defiant in his older years) objected to this, and was hit repeatedly, chastised, and the bloody tiger balm was all over him.

The next morning the tigers were counted and checked just in case any had disappeared, none had.

Now I know that these Hollywood people did not know about the abuse these creatures have endured. I know to us that know about it, it would seem like they would have to be living with their heads in the sand to have not heard about it, but still alot of people do not know.

So the Scorpian King 3, which is apparentently going straight to DVD, used some of the temple tigers. They paid for them, and they have inadvertantly contributed to the ongoing abuse of these creatures.

Now about the tigers.....

Sangtewan is not pregnant. They have been trying hard to get her pregnant again, however this time I think her body has given up. Her beaten and broken body is a mess. If she does not recieve any veterinary aid she will suffer and she will die.

Fakram - has given up on everything. He is isolated from the other tigers and is situated at a lonely end of tiger island. The reason for this, I can only think, is because he is not able to be handled at all and challenges everyone, he is a killer. He always was a killer, however in 2007 - mid 2009 he was a killer that still had a personality, now he has no personality, just a killer. It seems they are starving him to death as he is losing a massive amount of weight. The other tigers are being fed, however Fakram is rarely seen with any food.

It is not that the Temple doesnt have the money, it is just that Fakram has no use to them, he is forgotten. One of the senior TSW was overheard saying 'Fakram will be gone soon and we use the cage for other tiger'.

WTF are they up to.......

There are 84 tigers inside tiger island now, there are approximately 34 cages under tiger island. 4 cages cannot be used, and Mam Mam the Moon bear is in another cage. Now do the maths. 29 cages for 84 tigers, now grassed area, just cement and rusted bars.

Cee4life is trying very hard to keep an eye on all of the ailing tigers. I will put a list up of all of the ailing tigers soon, and some photographs.

Weya - is doomed. Dr Somchai refuses to provide the correct medication to end his unbearable haematoma.... this is tragic, angering.

Hernfa - his eyes are shaking and he is unable to focus. This is the same for 15 of the tigers. This has been brought to the attention of the Dr, but nothing is done. These ailments have now been going on for 5 months.... they will go on forever if this cant be stopped.

Nanfa - the tiger Nanfa has begun to just stop moving. Once Nan would walk around the cage, but now wont move most days. Something terrible has happened to Nan, I am trying to find out.

Rowie - the young male Rowie has also got serious eye problems, is unable to focus directly on anything.

Saidow - the young cub Saidow is one of many who is born cross eyed, however numerous tigers within the temple are suffering eye infections, disabilities of some kind or another.

These eye problems are multiplying. It is not just the older tigers, it is the young ones too. This could be a symptom of a number of things. In the older ones, the sudden shaking eyes could be neurological, a stroke maybe, maybe a head injury, a virus - it will be unknown until professional veterinary aid is given.

The young cubs being born with cross eyes - probably from inbreeding, also a symptom of a parent who has been drugged alot during pregnancy.

Whatever the case, they are still in dire need and........go to the cee4life to read more. It is important.

And can I once again renew my appeal to the zoos of the world to put up a small sign on their Tiger enclosures advising tourists not to visit the Tiger Temple when they visit Thailand? Please. It is your countrymen which keep this place going.
