The World's First White Ligers

The World's First White Ligers

This isn't real.....but it is just a matter of time

This is the big news story put out yesterday by the 'Daily Mail'.....see HERE
Actually I wonder if they are. Perhaps that other irresponsible breeder of hybrid big cats, Joe Exotic, who just bred the world' first Liliger has one hidden away in his backyard.

These two guys 'Doc' Antle and Joe Exotic are doing more harm to conservation and promoting more lies than is good for the safety of our planet. They need to be stopped. There is nothing clever in what they are doing. It is wrong no matter which way you look at it. What makes it worse is that people like Antle have the ear of the US Congress and can actually sway things, the way the laws are made. Something needs to be done....urgently. These conservation criminals must be called to task. They are as bad as poachers in my eyes.

Breeding White Lions and White Tigers is not just wrong but it demonstrates ignorance and lack of caring. I really cannot see why reputable zoos do it. Breeding hybrids and freaks or even renting them is wrong. I note a two headed calf was born in Morocco this week....to be sure there are zoos out there which would purchase this.....and really if you think about it it is really no different to a White Liger.

White Tiger Breeding is Not Conservation

White Lion Breeding Is Not Conservation

Just What Is The Point Mr Antle?

Corruption meets Anti - Conservation

The story....if a story it is:

A roaring success, the world's first white ligers: Four brothers are rarest big cats on the planet

  • Yeti, Odlin, Sampson and Apolo are the world's most unique big cats
  • First 'liger' cubs to be born from white male lion and white female tiger
  • At six weeks old, they already weigh 15lbs and gain a pound a day
These adorable cubs may look cute and unassuming but they are in fact the rarest of their species – and could grow to be the biggest cats in the world.
The four handsome male ‘liger’ cubs are the first ever to be born from a white male lion and white female tiger, making them the world’s most unique big cats.
There are only around 300 white lions and 1,200 white tigers left in the world, so the cubs’ father, Ivory and mother, Saraswati, are extremely rare in their own right.

Corruption meets Anti - Conservation

Corruption meets Anti - Conservation

Did you know that Alaskan Congressman has been named by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington no less than five times as one of the most corrupt members of Congress? If you did then it can come as no surprise that he and the Doc Antle circus from Myrtle Beach should get together.

Taking a tiger cub and a baby chimpanzee to Longworth is all wrong and if people fail to see the "Responsibility and Ethics" around such an act then there is no hope. Pulling Chimpanzees and Tiger cubs from their dams so they can be used in such a manner is wrong. Allowing T.I.G.E.R.S. to play any part in any event involving 'conservation' is insane. They don't know the meaning of the world. People are so easily taken in by flowery powery websites that organisations right themselves and believe the garbage because it is there in print. That this group should be allowed to promote any cause is insane.

I don't doubt that the proposed legislation surrounding the ownership of exotic pets needs looking at a lot closer but if its implementation means putting 'Doc' Antle and his ilk out of business then I am all for it.

This is not the first time that the Myrtle Beach circus have had the opportunity to sway the opinion of Congress.

It May Be Cute But It Is NOT Conservation

Tripe

Somewhere along the way people, and especially newspapers and TV programmes, have got to get to grips with what conservation is all about. The video below shows all that it is NOT. Handrearing is wrong unless it is absolutely necessary.....and if the animals were maintained properly would be an extremely rare occurrence. Breeding Tigons, Ligers, White Tigers, White Lions is NOT conservation. Swimming Orangutans? Why are they not with their mother?
This is all wrong...and it wrong regardless of how much money is reputedly handed over to conservation.

I have little doubt that zoo visitors get a huge thrill with these interactions, and it may well be that Kody believes that this is all okay. It May Be Cute But It Is NOT Conservation.

Just What is the point Mr Antle?

Another Crime Against Nature By The Myrtle Beach Circus

It is not clever, it is not right. It truly is a criminal act and yet this nonsense goes on unchecked. It is places like this which give zoos a bad name. It does nothing for conservation or education. All it does is line Doc Antle's pockets and massage his inflated ego.

Half lion, half tiger - it's the baby liger... and his 64 stone brother
Their heads are shaped like a lioness’s, yet faint stripes and shorter legs suggest a different heritage. Are these lions or tigers? Neither – they are ligers, a cross between a male lion and a tigress.

Four-week-old Aries hardly cuts a commanding figure as he sits on his big brother’s head. Yet the cub will grow to match colossal Hercules, who weighs more than 64 stone.

Ligers grow at such an explosive rate, piling on about 1 lb per day, that by the time Aries reaches his first birthday, he is expected to weigh more than 26 stone.

When he is three, he could be more than 50 stone, and a few more years on he may challenge his brother for the title of the world’s biggest hybrid cat.

Standing almost 6ft tall to the tips of his ears, Hercules has a page devoted to him in the Guinness World Records book.

The project is run by The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S.).
Its director, Dr Bhagavan Antle, said: ‘Aries could be just as big as Hercules and it is entirely possible he could be bigger.
‘Generally lions and tigers don’t reproduce and the male lion breeding with a tiger has only happened three times.
‘The great thing about ligers is they have this extreme social ability they get from their lion fathers. They enjoy the social life and enjoy touching and interactive play.’
Trainer Moksha Bybee, 30, added: ‘The liger’s aggression is tempered by the mother tiger which gives them a greater social capacity. They love rolling against you and wanting to touch

The siblings, both more playful than pure lions, were born at Myrtle Beach Safari wildlife reserve in South Carolina.

The project is run by The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S.).

Latest Coup From The Myrtle Beach Circus

Latest Coup From The Myrtle Beach Circus

It was just the other day that I posted a link on Doc Antle and his visit to congress. Well he has done it again. This is a direct kick of 'sand into the eyes' of all the Orangutan groups who have strived to stop them being used in advertising. I don't believe that the so called 'Rare Species Fund' (part of the so called 'The Insitute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species') contributes anything to Orangutan conservation in the wild. It would be rather like a charity accepting blood money. Can anyone tell me different? Can anyone show proof?
They claim to be supporting "hundreds of orphaned Orangutans". They show a photograph of four baby Orangutans which "were born at our reserve from captive bred parents". Then can anyone tell me why the hell they are not with their parents? They should be in the same way that 'Suriya' who you will see in the advert below should be with his parents or at least other Orangutans in an enclosure and not parading around in supermarkets.
Wasn't it nice to know that he was not alone though, because all his Orangutan friends were in the motorhome outside. This gave me a sort sickly feeling in the back of my throat. Having a 'Palm Oil' message at the end of the video does not make it all okay.

Anyway see what you think, watch the video. I think it is all very clever. Another coup for Doc Antle and his Myrtle Beach Circus, but clever does not make it right.

Doc Antle Takes Congress For A Ride

I have repeatedly warned through Zoo News Digest that unless Doc Antle and Myrtle Beach circus are not taken as a serious threat to conservation that he will be taken as an authoritive figure. He is not. His wonderful (and IT IS wonderful) publicity machine have pulled off their latest coup. Here it is:

So how many of those people you see hanging up a lion cub or hugging a gibbon are not going to ring Mr Antle next time they have a wildlife question? He could actually shape the law which governs US zoos. I don't think congress should have entertained a visit from a zoo which was not a member of AZA. I believe questions should be asked as to why.
