ABWAK
Association of British and Irish Wild Animal Keepers
Voluntary opportunity to Join ABWAK Council
The Association of British and Irish Wild Animal Keepers (ABWAK) is looking for a dynamic, passionate and forward thinking animal keeper to join our Council in a voluntary capacity. ABWAK is the professional organisation for wild animal keepers in Britain and Ireland, with a core focus of developing animal welfare through communication, cooperation, training and development.
The work of ABWAK is lead by a team of professionals with experience in animal husbandry, education, marketing, fundraising and more. We are looking for an individual to join our team to help us reach our strategic goals. This is an excellent opportunity for an animal keeper to develop their experience outside of the work place, meet other zoo professionals, help shape our organisation and support our members through our regional training workshops, quarterly journal and annual symposium.
The ideal candidate will be in current employment as an animal keeper in Britain or Ireland, and have a good understanding of the needs and requirements of animal keepers. The candidate should be able to volunteer at least six days per year (mostly weekends) to attend ABWAK council meetings (at different zoos around the country), and the annual symposium. All council members are assigned a specific role to support our activities, and would be expected to communicate regularly with the other council members via email.
Please send a CV and a covering letter briefly outlining how you could help ABWAK support animal keepers to:
